Topping out ceremony for affordable homes in Tatling End

Work to construct 34 brand new homes in Tatling End, including 14 affordable rented apartments, reached an important milestone this month. Representatives from South Bucks District Council, Pick Everard, the Scape Group and building contractors Willmott Dixon attended a 'topping out' ceremony to celebrate building works on-site reaching its highest point, a tradition in the building industry.

To mark the occasion, South Bucks District Council's Chairman Councillor David Pepler and other members of the project team signed the back of roof tiles which were then taken off to be placed on the roof.

South Bucks District Council has identified the strong need for affordable housing in the District, and is keen to ensure that any new development responds to the needs of the local community. The development on Oxford Road comprises of 1 and 2 bedroom apartments providing 20 apartments for private rent and 14 apartments for affordable rent. The properties will have shared and private amenity space, and parking.

Operations Director at Willmott Dixon, Steve Kitchen said: "We are really pleased that we could celebrate the topping out of this fantastic project at Tatling End with Councillor Pepler, Councillor Egleton and members of the project team. The 34 high quality rented homes we are delivering for South Bucks District Council will be a very important step towards meeting the high demand for affordable rented homes by the local community."

South Bucks District Councillor Patrick Hogan, Portfolio Holder for Healthy Communities said: "We are really pleased with the rapid on-site progress. The work of both our project team and the contractor, Willmott Dixon, has ensured that works have progressed quickly since construction started in April. We are optimistic that the apartments will be ready by summer 2020 providing high-quality homes to the local area. I look forward to welcoming the new residents to the local area. We all look forward to when the new residents move in next year and the development truly come to life.

"Helping people in South Bucks to find a home is one of the most important things we do as a Council and this scheme is just one of the significant steps we are taking to tackle the district's lack of affordable housing. In addition to this development, we have recently provided 12 flats in Burnham that are providing additional accommodation for homeless households. We will continue to work with registered provider partners such as L&Q, Paradigm and Bucks Housing in a bid to deliver more affordable housing."
