Children Gearing up for Community Cards 2020
Year 6 students at 26 primary schools across Chiltern and South Bucks districts are gearing up to take part in this year's Community Cards scheme which will run from Monday 23 March to Monday 22 June.
Over 1000 children will be collecting stickers by completing various challenges and tasks, or by attending an event. Each sticker is linked to valuable life skills with topics covering money management, cyber security, safety awareness, healthy living, citizenship, environmental issues, sport and wellbeing. The scheme was designed to help prepare children in Year 6 for their transition to secondary school. Winners are the classes whose pupils have the highest number of stickers on their collector's card and will be awarded with a day trip to LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort. The Entertainer toy shop has pledged to donate a £50 voucher to each school that takes part and Everyone Active is proving the winning class with a trip to The CLIMB in Amersham and family swim passes.
The scheme is run by Chiltern and South Bucks District Councils' joint Community Safety Team and supported by Thames Valley Police, Bucks Fire & Rescue, Natwest, M for Money, Safe!, Barnados R-U-Safe?, National Trust, Wycombe Women's Aid and the councils' joint Waste and Recycling Team.
South Bucks District Councillor Patrick Hogan, portfolio holder for Healthy Communities says: "Community Cards is an excellent and fun way to help children develop their knowledge and teach pupils important life skills that will help prepare them for the transition from Year 6 to the next stage in their life at secondary school.
"We are very grateful to our sponsors LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort, The Entertainer and Everyone Active who are offering some great prizes to give that little bit of extra motivation. Good luck to all the pupils taking part."
