Former film studios transformed into affordable homes for local people
Local people looking for affordable housing in South Buckinghamshire are being offered the chance to live in a brand new development in Denham, on the former site of the renowned Denham Film Studios.
Launching next month, L&Q @ The Denham Film Studios is a superb collection of one and two bedroom apartments.
These include 63 affordable rented properties available through Bucks Home Choice and 27 available through L&Q's popular Shared Ownership scheme.
The Shared Ownership scheme allows buyers to purchase a share of their property and pay a mortgage on the percentage they own and subsidised rent on the percentage they don't own. Over time, buyers are able to purchase more shares in their home until they own 100%.
Located just off the North Orbital Road in Denham, the studio was originally designed by Walter Gropius for esteemed film producer Alexander Korda. At the heart of the British film industry in the Twentieth Century, Denham was home to classic films such as Brief Encounter and Great Expectations. The studios were also often used to record film scores - best known for Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.
Cllr Patrick Hogan, South Bucks District Council Portfolio Holder for Healthy Communities, said: "This is a really significant delivery of affordable housing for South Bucks District Council and we are delighted to see a development that gives local people the opportunity to live in affordable housing in a location like this.
"Initial priority will be for applicants who live or work in the South Bucks district, and the development offers 63 affordable rent apartments which will be advertised on the Bucks Home Choice website later this year. The 27 one and two bedroom apartments will also be available through L&Q's Shared Ownership scheme.
"We know how important it is for people to be able to live in the area where they have established connections, and for some, having their own home in South Bucks can seem like an impossible dream because it's such an expensive area. There's also a high demand for social housing here, so I'm pleased to see priority being given to local people for this fantastic development."
Christine Osborne, Sales and Customer Services Director for L&Q's Counties Region, said: "As part of our ambition to deliver 100,000 new homes, we are delighted to be offering such a unique scheme for first time buyers. Our Shared Ownership homes at Denham Film Studios provide a pocket of affordability in the heart of leafy Buckinghamshire countryside. With nearby Denham railway station connecting to central London in just 25 minutes, we are expecting large amounts of interest from city workers looking for a tranquil escape from busy London."
Situated in the Buckinghamshire countryside, L&Q @ The Denham Film Studios is within walking distance to Denham railway station, connecting to London Marylebone in just 25 minutes. The development also has quick access to the A40, M40 and M25.
