Building Control ensures that any work carried out to buildings is carried out to the minimum requirements of the Building Regulations under the Building Act 1984.
Building Regulations are a set of performance standards for the design and construction of buildings. They ensure that any works meet the requirements necessary to protect health and the safety of people in, and around the building.
Building Control does not give permission for something to be built or altered. That is the responsibility of the Planning team. Anyone who is carrying out building work is required by law to make sure it complies with the requirements of the Building Regulations.
